iTunes 10.5 Free Download Available Now

Apple has updated their iTunes software to the new version 10.5.  This free download is available for Mac,   Windows XP, Vista, or Windows 7.  For the first time however, Quicktime is not included with the iTunes software.  Whats new in iTunes 10.5:

• iTunes is now in the cloud, so if you buy a song on your iPhone, it also appears on your iPad or other iDevice 

• Re-Download past purchases: this used to be a headache before, Apple has now made it easy

• iTunes Match: for $24.99 a year iTunes scans your songs, and any music with a match is added to your iCloud library to listen on any Apple device.  Any music that doesn't match can be uploaded and played back from iCloud, at 256 kbps, DRM-free

Osmos for iPad Review

Osmos for iPad is a beautiful game that really shows off the gorgeous graphics capability of the iPad.   Created by Hemisphere Games, the object of Osmos is to navigate your sphere around the sun, and merge with smaller motes which will make you grow larger.

However danger is all around you in the form of red sphere's (which cannot be absorbed) Run into the sun? you die, collide with the red outer barrier? same deal.  You tap to change direction, but each time you do so, your sphere gets smaller.

Osmos for iPad is a stunning game, with soothing music, trippy graphics - and you can even warp time, with just a flick.  Two game modes are available - Odyssey: which contains 27 levels, and Arcade: which allows you to play any level - with you choosing the difficulty.  Osmos for iPad is $4.99, The current version is 1.6.4 and is an 18.7 MB file.

Echofon for Twitter 4.1 Update - Free App Download for iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch

Thank You Steve Jobs

Steve Jobs passed away on Wednesday October 5, 2011.  On that day the world lost an incredible Visionary, leader, and a one-of-a-kind genius who led Apple and indeed the world, into the digital age.  Steve Jobs inspired a whole new generation of tech founders including Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook, as well as Larry Page and Sergey Brin of Google to innovate, and "Think Different."

Besides starting the personal computer revolution with his partner Steve Wozniak, he also gave us the "windowed" software environment, popularized the computer Mouse, and started up an amazing little company you may have heard of called Pixar; which was later sold to Disney - yet another firm he restored to its former greatness.

Now, many men would have stopped right there thinking "I've done enough for one life" and went on to a comfortable early retirement, but Steve kept going; restoring new life to Apple with the iMac, rescuing the music industry with iTunes, and the iPod - revitalizing mobile phones with the stunning iPhone, and creating a space for tablet computers (better known as iPads) all one can say is wow.

Steve Jobs is: The Innovator.

He made life easier for all of us, and focused on quality in building great products, saying: "Be a yardstick of quality. Some people aren't used to an environment where excellence is expected." and excellence was expected - and delivered - at Apple, pouring forth in a torrent of wonderful software, and amazing devices year, after year.

What i will remember most about him is his passion for design, and his not being willing to settle for "good enough" always striving for perfection.  Only Steve would say:  "Design is not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works."  The fact is he got it. and so did we in products that simply worked. 

Thank You Steve Jobs.

Instead of saying he died on October 5, 2011, i prefer to say he graduated that day, to the more advanced classes, where I'm sure once they realize what they've got, he'll skip a grade or two.  The next time you swipe a screen, think of him.  Goodbye my friend, for now.

Steve Jobs once said: "I want to put a ding in the universe." well Steve, i think you just did.

Apple has announced the new iPhone 4S which will be available on AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint.  The new iPhone 4S will be offered for pre-order starting on October 7, 2011 and for delivery beginning October 14, 2011 AT&T and Verizon customers can pre-order, and Sprint is listed as "coming soon" iPhone 4S contains the following features:

• Dual core processor, new A5 chip - up to 2 times faster CPU
• Dual core graphics chip - up to 7 times faster graphics
• iOS 5, and Siri voice recognition personal assistant: ask a question; get an answer
• 8 hours of 3G talk time, 6 hours web browsing, 9 hours on WiFi, 10 hours of video and 40 hours of music
• iPhone 4S maximum data speeds of 14.4 Mbps down, 5.8 Mbps up, vs 7.2 down, 5.8 up for the iPhone 4
