CUPERTINO, California—February 24, 2011—Apple® today updated the industry-leading MacBook® Pro family with next generation processors and graphics, high-speed Thunderbolt I/O technology and a new FaceTime® HD camera. Featuring the very latest dual-core and quad-core Intel Core processors, the entire MacBook Pro line is up to twice as fast as the previous generation.*
Starting at $1,199 the new 13-inch MacBook Pro offers amazing value and performance in a compact design. The highly portable 13-inch MacBook Pro features Intel Core i5 and Core i7 dual-core processors up to 2.7 GHz and Intel HD Graphics 3000. The powerful 15-inch and 17-inch MacBook Pro models feature quad-core Core i7 processors up to 2.3 GHz and AMD Radeon HD graphics processors with up to 1GB of video memory for high performance gaming, pro video editing and graphics intensive applications.
“The new MacBook Pro brings next generation dual and quad Core processors, high performance graphics, Thunderbolt technology and FaceTime HD to the great design loved by our pro customers,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. “Thunderbolt is a revolutionary new I/O technology that delivers an amazing 10 gigabits per second and can support every important I/O standard which is ideal for the new MacBook Pro.”
MacBook Pro is the first computer on the market to include the groundbreaking Thunderbolt I/O technology. Developed by Intel with collaboration from Apple, Thunderbolt enables expandability never before possible on a notebook computer. Featuring two bi-directional channels with transfer speeds up to an amazing 10Gbps each, Thunderbolt delivers PCI Express directly to external high performance peripherals such as RAID arrays, and can support FireWire and USB consumer devices and Gigabit Ethernet networks via adapters. Thunderbolt also supports DisplayPort for high resolution displays and works with existing adapters for HDMI, DVI and VGA displays. Freely available for implementation on systems, cables and devices, Thunderbolt technology is expected to be widely adopted as a new standard for high performance I/O.
The MacBook Pro now includes a built-in FaceTime HD camera with triple the resolution of the previous generation for crisp, widescreen video calls. With Apple’s innovative FaceTime video calling software, the new camera allows high definition video calls between all new MacBook Pro models and supports standard resolution calls with other Intel-based Macs, iPhone® 4 and the current generation iPod touch®. FaceTime is included with all new MacBook Pro models and is available for other Intel-based Macs from the Mac® App Store℠ for 99 cents. The MacBook Pro lineup continues to feature its gorgeous aluminum unibody enclosure, glass Multi-Touch™ trackpad, LED-backlit widescreen display, illuminated full-size keyboard and 7-hour battery.**
As the industry’s greenest notebook lineup, every Mac notebook achieves EPEAT Gold status and meets Energy Star 5.0 requirements, setting the standard for environmentally friendly notebook design.*** Each unibody enclosure is made of highly recyclable aluminum and comes standard with energy efficient LED-backlit displays that are mercury-free and made with arsenic-free glass. Mac notebooks contain no brominated flame retardants, are PVC-free and are constructed with recyclable materials.
Every Mac comes with Mac OS® X Snow Leopard®, the world’s most advanced operating system, and iLife®, Apple’s innovative suite of applications for creating and sharing great photos, movies and music. Snow Leopard builds on more than a decade of innovation and includes multiple features for portable computing such as Multi-Touch navigation, advanced wireless networking, easy file sharing, automated data backup and intelligent power management. Which iPhone Should i Buy? - the AT&T iPhone 4, vs the Verizon iPhone 4
05.27
ipod touch review
No comments
Courtesy of Apple |
Verizon's iPhone 4, and the AT&T iPhone 4, both may be made by Apple but are quite different in some aspects. When asking “which iPhone should I buy?” potential iPhone user's have a number of things to consider.
Which Standard is Best for you?
Verizon operates on the CDMA ( Code Division Multiple Access ) standard, while AT&T uses GSM ( Global System for Mobile Communications ) In the United States, CDMA ( with Verizon in the lead ) serves the most user's, while GSM dominates in the rest of the world. So which iPhone you should choose may well depend on weather you travel a lot, or remain stateside. The AT&T iPhone includes a SIM card which stores user data, and contacts, while the Verizon model does not. This is another issue which must be considered if you are the type who likes the convenience of easily swapping your card from phone, to phone.
The AT&T and Verizon iPhone Shuffle
According to Apple, some of the differences in the implementation of the settings, and features are make one really think before taking the plunge, and choosing one iPhone, over another. Consider the following:- The AT&T iPhone supports up to 5 conference calls simultaneously, while the Verizon model supports only 2.
- To place a call on hold on the GSM model you simply tap, and hold the mute button, while CDMA networks don't offer the ability to place a call on hold.
- Turning on or off Call forwarding, Call waiting, and Caller ID are easy on the AT&T iPhone, just select Settings > Phone. While on Verizon one must dial *72 ( plus the forwarding # ) to turn Call forwarding on ( *73 to turn it off ) For Call waiting Verizon user's must dial *70 ( plus the # you're dialing ) as well as dial *70 each time to disable Call waiting. AND for Caller ID you must dial *67 ( plus the # you are dialing ) as well as dialing *67 each time to disable Caller ID, whew!
- And of course most importantly, the AT&T version of the iPhone allows you to simultaneously make phone calls and transfer data, while the Verizon model does not.
Can You Hear us Now?
Are you guys beginning to get the picture? If you live in one of the data-congested cities like New York, or San Francisco, or are otherwise suffering from dropped calls on the AT&T network, and you can live with the quirks above, you may want to choose the Verizon iPhone. But if not, then selecting The AT&T iPhone may be the clear choice.Which iPhone should i buy? indeed. The features in the AT&T iPhone, vs the Verizon iPhone are enough to make one think before signing on to that two-year contract. What do you think of the differences between the two carriers and have you suffered from enough dropped calls that you might consider making the switch to Verizon? Apple's IPad - Buy it Now, or Wait for the New Version, iPad 2? Rumors, Specs, and News
05.20
ipod touch review
No comments
Apple is nearing the beginning of it's upgrade cycle, and release date, for the sleek new iPad 2, as with the iPhone 4, rumors and news, are swirling thick and fast about when the new Pad will be released, and what the major features will be.
The questions on the minds of most current iPad owners, as well as potential new users are: to buy now, or to wait? So what seems to be the consensus about the Specs on the iPad 2?:
- Faster processor - Apple's fast A4 Chip seems all but certain to get an upgrade, and some sources are suggesting the possibility of a duel-core chip, on some models.
- Better Display - The screen on the current iPad is plenty sharp, but there's always room for improvement, and with Apple making bulk purchases of iPad component's we could see even higher screen resolution in next-gen devices.
- More RAM – This is almost a given, considering how far memory prices have dropped over the last few years. Increasing the amount of memory would make for a far snappier iPad 2, without a bump in price.
- Advanced GPU – With the advent of Game Center on iPad, with the release of iOS 4.2, now would be a great time to improve the Graphics chip for better gaming performance across the board.
With these possible advances, the new iPad looks to be a compelling product upgrade for current owners of the device. However to answer the “buy now, or wait?” question brings on this answer: if you need and iPad RIGHT-NOW, by all means get it. But if you can wait just a bit more, you may end up getting much more of a Tablet for your money, and the current Pad may even receive a price reduction.
MacToTheFuture Verdict: If you need it, BUY NOW, but if you can, WAIT for the new iPad 2
What do you think? do you plan on buying the iPad 2? leave a response in the comments.
