First and biggest problem iPod won't start up.

1) first before starting troubleshooting fully charge your i pod.

2) secondly and most common mistake is - User by mistake make i pod in hold position and so it will not work so make sure hold switch is off. And if hold switch is on then you will see lock symbol on screen. soo move hold switch to off position. If it shows hold switch is off even then toggle hold switch on and off for couple of time. If remote control plugged into it make sure that its hold switch is off as well.


3) if you can mount your ipod on your computer then restore it with latest software updater according to your model. You can find latest software on Apple website. To start ipod restore process read this post about how to Restore Ipod. I will explain this in details vary soon.

Note :- If you Restore ipod all your data like calendar, music and contact will be erased. Soo take back up before restoring.
4) if it wan’t charge or you are not able to charge it, make battery completely dry. Take out battery from i pod and put outside for 24 hours so it will dry completed and again fully charge the battery.

5) if it is 18 months old and you have used it extensively it may possible that battery is completed dead.

Ipod Tricks - iPod doesn't mount or not appear in itunes

1)ipod will not be recognized by low power USB port so make sure to plug in usb2.0 port or fire wire port.
2) it needs all the power a fire wire port can deliver soo if it is connected with chain of fire wire devices it will not get required power and soo it will not appear in itune.

3) reset your ipod I have explained it in last post how to reset ipod.

4)If you are using mac system then restart pc while holding a shift key of keyboard this will disable start up items and if ipod respond to this treatment should be restored.

5) for first three generation i pods hold next and previous button and for mini and fourth generation play and the Select button to place the iPod in Disk Mode. If ipod mount only with this disk mode then it should be restored.

1) fully charge it it may possible that ipod is confused by some process.
2) make sure it is updated with latest version of software which is compatible. An incompatible software may cause this problem soo restore your ipod.
3) If it is formatted with some windows or mac disk utility which are incompatible .if you have done this then restore ipod with latest updater available on apple.
4) If none of this ipod tricks steps work that means your hard drive is dead try diagnosis your hard disk with diagnosis test or contact service center.

Ipod Tricks for The iPod displays a battery with an exclamation point.
1) make sure you are charging from working power source. It will not charge if it attached to sleeping computer and also USB 2.0 connection won't charge a third-generation ipod.
2) your ipod locked up then try to unlock it by resetting. For first three generation ipods simultaneously hold Menu and Play button and for forth generation and mini press Play and Select button for about 7 to 10 seconds.
4)if it does not charge even you plugged it with power receptacle for longer time then try to use another cable as damaged cable also prevent it from charging.
5 if none of these treatments work that means ipod battery is dead

Ipod tricks for The iPod displays the image of a spinning disk and magnifying glass.
1) this indicate that it performing disk scanning test this icon appear in first three generation ipod, not available in mini and fourth generation ipods. If you don’t want to perform this test reset your ipod if you like to complete the scan then plug ipod for charging as this test takes lots of power and take long time about 15 to 20 minutes to complete.

Larger iPod Touch with 7 or 8 inch screen to be released

TechCrunch is reporting that a large screen iPod touch device could be released in the Fall of ‘09, with a 7 or 9 inch screen. TechCruch claims that it got this news from three independent sources close to Apple. In fact one of the sources has even held one of these devices.

After the release of the App Store, millions of games have been downloaded on to the iPod Touch turning it into a gaming console. So I would not be suprised to see an iPod Touch with a larger screen in future. What do you think??

Apple has winning (iPod) touch in festive sales this holiday season

"Apple, with its iPod touch, appears a clear winner this holiday season as US consumers shop for smaller, cheaper, more versatile electronics," Chris Nuttall and Richard Waters report for The Financial Times.

While the Consumer Electronics Association predicts flat fourth-quarter sales compared with a year ago, analysts report Apple stores have been the busiest among electronics retailers.

Linux on iPhone/iPod Touch

I'm pleased to announce that the Linux 2.6 kernel has been ported to Apple's iPhone platform, with support for the first and second generation iPhones as well as the first generation iPod touch. This is a rough first draft of the port, and many drivers are still missing, but it's enough that a real alternative operating system is running on the iPhone.

In addition to today's release of iPhone Software 2.2 for iPhone and iPhone 3G, Apple has released the “iPhone 2.2 Software Update for iPod touch,” containing a comparatively shorter list of improvements. Notably absent in Apple’s changelog are references to improvements to the Maps application, which on the iPhone and iPhone 3G has gained Google Street View, transit information, and walking directions. Here is what Apple lists as improvements to the iPod touch version of the software:

• Secure WPA Wi-Fi network connection issues have been fixed.
• E-mail fetching problems have been resolved.
• Wide HTML e-mail formatting has been improved.
• Auto-correcting keyboard can be turned on or off.
• Safari is more stable and performs better.
• Podcasts can be downloaded from iTunes application.
• Pressing Home button from any Home screen returns you to the first Home screen.

Transferring music from ipod to mac computer is easy if you use ipod as a regular device rather than auto sync device. I know auto sync is important feature but for few minutes disable it.
Now connect ipod to computer and open itunes.
On left side pane you will fine your ipod (name of ipod). Click on it to open.
It the right edge bottom you can find many icons. One icon looks like a tiny ipod. Click on it. This will open configuration windows.

You can see in picture. It is selected "Manually manage songs and playlists". If automatic update is selected then uncheck automatic update and select manual mange songs.
Now open main itunes windows.
Now to select all songs click on edit tab  select all
Drag them all onto the library in the left column.

Copying will take time depend upon your music library. you have a restored iTunes library. Or you can say transferring music from ipod to mac computer is done.
If you want you can go back to itunes preferences and re-enable auto sync.
Note: I have not purchased music from iTunes music store. These steps for transfer music from ipod to mac computer are not for registered music. I don’t know what happen with registered music if you do copy like this.

Here are steps for how to transfer music from ipod to ipod. This will guide you how to transfer music from your old ipod to new ipod.

First you need to search the script named ipodfolderopener. This will run a series of terminal command that open up all hidden folder in the invisible music folder in your ipod’s invisible ipod control folder as a finder windows. This will open many windows on your screen so don’t worry about that.

Before executing script, you need to navigate itune’s advance preferences pane and unchecked “copy files to itunes music folder when adding to library”. Now execute the script. it will open many windows go to the foremost windows, select all music and drag and drop them into itunes. And now back to finder close the windows from which you have copied all song. Now move to next windows repeat previous step. Continue doing this for all open windows.

If you have large collection then this will take more than 30 minutes. But you need to do this only once. After that whenever you connect your ipod to computer, itune automatically find all the tracks and consider it as other tracks installed in music folder of your ipod library. You can also burn everything on cd.

Now transfer music from old ipod to new ipod.
After finishing all the steps explained above. First mount your old ipod so tht all those files appear in local itunes music folder. Now mount new ipod and sync itunes automatically. This will transfer the entire music library from your computer and old ipod. This process is slower as compare to routine sync but you need to do this only once. After sync ipod, navigate itune preferences and change it from automatic sync to manual sync.
Once you are done syncing all of the music to the new ipod, click on it in the side pane, select its preferences from the bottom of the iTunes window, and switch it from Automatic sync to Manual sync.

Though it looks thinner, the iPod touch doesn’t feel much lighter than the first-generation model. My only complaint with the otherwise ­flawless design is that the steel back still attracts smudges and scratches after prolonged use.

It's true! But only for as long as you stay in the hotel. Runtriz, a software firm out of Hollywood, CA, after a series of quiet test runs at other LA hotels, has debuted a product called “Hotel Evolution” at the Malibu Beach Inn in Malibu, CA.

When you check-in to the hotel, you are asked if you own an iPhone. If you have one the Runtriz Hotel web application is loaded to the device. If you don't have an iPhone, a 16GB iPod Touch that already has the web application pre-loaded is given to you for the duration of your stay.

Once you’ve punched in your room number and security code, all of the hotel’s service offerings are but a tap away. Straight from the device’s screen, you can order room service, set a wake up call, request your luggage, dry cleaning, or car (or if you’re going all out, a limo), request linens or toiletries, check your messages, or set your room to “Do Not Disturb”. They also provide information about nearby nightlife, attractions, and shopping.

The cost of getting such a system up and running varies on a hotel-by-hotel basis. According to Matt Allard, president of Runtriz, the cost of the first month is generally about double that of the standard monthly fee of $10 per room.

iPod Touch named gadget of the year

Griffiths reports for Reuters that Apple has swept the board at Britain's T3 technology magazine's annual awards, winning four top prizes, including gadget of the year for its iPod Touch.

"The touch-screen music and video player beat the Asus Eee Pc budget laptop, TomTom's GO 920 car navigation system, Sony's HDR-TG3 compact camcorder and six other devices.", Griffiths reports.

T3 Editor Michael Brook said Apple had "nailed the mix of style and usability" with its latest crop of gadgets.

"The iPod wasn't the first MP3 player, but it was, and is, by far the best," he said. "The iPhone clearly wasn't the first smartphone, but it was the first one that every man, his dog and his dog's ticks would sell limbs to own."

Apple won three other awards: best commuter gadget (iPhone); best music gadget (iPod Touch 32GB) and a prize given by the magazine's blog, Gadget Candy (MacBook Air).

The magazine's second annual awards ceremony was held in Park Lane, central London, on Thursday evening and was hosted by "Cold Feet" actor James Nesbitt.

Readers cast more than 54,000 votes to pick 11 of the prizes, including the gadget of the year award. The others were chosen by T3. Details are on their website, www.t3.com/.

iSuppli reports that more than half of the car models in US to be realeased in 2009 will have at least optional iPod surport built-in.

The report says that this is due to continued demand from US consumers for the past few years to provide improved iPod Support in their vehicles audio/video systems.

Automakers seem to have responded to that demand in a big way with 39 percent of vehicle models in the United States in 2008 expected to offer iPod integration options. And in 2009, that number is expected to go up to 58 percent marking it the first time that more than half of the new car-models will be having this feature.

"The automotive industry is at the point where in-vehicle technologies-or the lack of them-are influencing sales," said Phil Magney, vice president of automotive research for iSuppli.

"The charge toward greater technological integration has been led by car OEMs like Hyundai and Honda, which are making USB/iPod combination interfaces standard on many of their vehicles. It's also been spurred by OEMs like Audi and Mercedes, which offer integrated Media Device Gateways that allow any device imaginable to integrate with a vehicle."

Ipod Touch Wireless Troubleshooting Mistakes

So far I received over 450 emails to help people troubleshooting Ipod Touch Wifi. And most common mistake was the WEP key mismatch. Itouch users instead of placing 26 character (128bit) long key they put windows-mac user password, email passwords, and passphrase.

Another most common mistake was connecting to some WiFi Router that isn't theirs. On many occasions I asked "Is the router you are connecting to, yours or your neighbours?"

Always check broadcast SSID (in router configuration page) before connecting to wifi via Itouch.

I totally understand that some or most people do not know much about WEP keys and I don't blame them! I blame Apple for putting so little information on how to use Ipod Touch or connect via WiFi.

Appleinsider has posted an article with the headline "Apple co-founder believes iPod has about run its course". The article says that Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak said "The iPod has sort of lived a long life at number one,". Steve Wozniak also said "Things like that, if you look back to transistor radios and Walkmans, they kind of die out after a while."
". He said this in a interview to The Telegraph.

Can anybody believe that? This man WOZ with all due respect has completely gone out of touch with the industry specifically the MP3 players market. The iPod Touch is the 3 best selling top rated MP3 and all are completely sold out.

"Last week AppleInsider reported that the first private beta of iPhone Software 2.2 included a redesigned Safari address bar, as well as a new version of the App Store application with interface tweaks and a new bug report feature," AI reports.
