Apple Releases iOS 4.3 Beta, Here’s What’s New

A few minutes ago Apple released iOS 4.3 beta to developers. It’s available now in the iOS Dev Center . The beta is available for iOS devices and the second generation Apple TV. Supported iOS mobile devices are iPad, iPhone 4 and 3GS, iPod touch 3rd and 4th gen. Build number is 8F5148b. A pre-release version of the Apple TV software has been provided to test AirPlay functionalities with 4.3 apps.
It looks like iOS 4.3 has some cool new gestures built specifically for the iPad. 4 & 5 finger gestures; pinch to the home screen, swipe up to reveal multitasking tray, swipe left/right to switch apps. Update: even though Apple says the gestures are there, I can’t seem to be able to use them at all. They don’t work for me in Apple’s own apps, and there’s no option to activate them in the Settings. We’re hearing several reports of other users unable to use these gestures

Other new features in this first beta of iOS 4.3 include a comeback of AirPlay streaming for video in 3rd party apps (opt-in for developers through API), Personal Hotspot as previously reported, iAd fullscreen banners.

Update #2: Here’s what we have found out in iOS 4.3 so far:
- With iOS 4.3, Apple Drops iPhone 3G Support (and iPod Touch 2nd gen)
- Apple Brings Hardware Rotation Lock Back in iOS 4.3 for iPad
- iOS 4.3 To Introduce New Camera Effects?

Update #3: As noted by Engadget, multi-touch gestures for iPad have their own panel in the Settings app. Currently, my iPad doesn’t show the option. If you can’t see the preference either, try a restore or restore via DFU mode.

Update #4: Other new features and miscellaneous updates spotted in iOS 4.3 beta 1.
- Personal Hotspot works on Three Italy

- Redesigned Settings panel position:

- Play SMS alert tone up to 10 times:

- New font option “Noteworthy” for iPad:

Update #5: Two other “new” things we spotted in 4.3: a slightly “redesigned” keyboard with a different graphic under each key, and a new App Store “Updates” interface that seems quite broken at the moment.

Update #6: More subtle UI and functionality changes spotted in iOS 4.3
- Redesigned “account” section under the Store menu:

- Restrictions for Ping:

- New menu for scrubbing in videos. Previously, you could slide your finger down to adjust scrubbing but there was no visual aid.
  • Fine Scrubbing: Adjust by seconds/ frames
  • Quarter Scrubbing: Second
  • Half Speed Scrubbing: Adjust by minute(s)
  • Hi-Speed Scrubbing: Run fast through minutes

Ipod Touch 4g Facetime!

As you’re probably aware by now, Apple unveiled a new iPod touch earlier today which, among other things, brings a second device into the FaceTime family. When FaceTime was introduced on the iPhone 4 earlier this year, Apple chose to integrate it with the built-in Phone app, a logical choice considering how the company wants to present it as just another type of phone call. Apple also used users’ actual cellular phone numbers from the iPhone 4 to register devices with its FaceTime servers and allow users to place calls to each other.

The problem, of course, is that the iPod touch has no Phone app nor an actual phone number to register with the FaceTime network. Contrary to a suspicious rumor that claimed Apple would add a VoIP Phone application to the iPod touch, Apple instead added a new standalone FaceTime app to the iPod touch specifically for handling FaceTime calls. It now simply uses the user’s e-mail address to identify them on the FaceTime network, a change that has already been discovered in the iOS 4.1 betas. iPhone users who want to call iPod touch users can simply select their e-mail address to initiate a FaceTime call, although you’ll need to upgrade to iOS 4.1 on your iPhone in order to do so.

iPod touch users will also apparently need an Apple ID to actually register their e-mail addresses with the FaceTime network, but it’s not clear whether this will happen transparently as it does on the iPhone or whether the user will need to complete some type of sign-in process.

iPod Touch 4th Generation

The new iPod touch 4th generation seems like it will be out in September but all rumors are just that. We will have to wait and see just when it arrives. Apple mostly do very well at keeping such things close to their chest but there have been leaks and it does seem as if it will be about this time.
The next generation iPod touch 4G seems to have been leaked simply because of the testing code found and with tech heads the world over writing about it on blogs it has already caused quite a stir. What is certain is that people will be waiting with baited breath to get their hands on any new apple product, sleek is not the word that fully describes their slick high tech goodies.

iPod 4G Features

Just what will be new with the iPod 4 is hard to say. Certainly the operating system will be updated and there is sure to be even more interactivity than ever. But how exactly it will differ from previous models will have to be delved in to once there is more news.
Certainly there seems like there will be changes to the screens but we will just have to wait and see.
But one thing we can all be sure of is that it will be slicker and sleeker than previous iPods, with more features and dare we say it, a lower price?

How to get (Wi-Fi) Internet on iPod Touch Everywhere

Well I know some of you are mad because iPod Touch does not have 3G network. You can actually get internet on iPod Touch everywhere you go with small gizmo called MiFi. MiFi can be obtained at Verizon or Virgin Mobile, I would prefer Virgin Mobile because they are A LOT cheaper.

How do you get internet on iPod Touch?
Sign up with Virgin Mobile, wait until you get MiFi and all you really have to do is turn it on and viola you are on internet everywhere you go!

Plans are not that expensive:
$10  gets you 100MB and it's valid for 10 days
$40 is unlimited data for 1 month!

MiFi is basically a 3G network that gets converted to Wi-Fi. What I like about MiFi is that you can hook up 5 devices to it and its pretty fast too.
